Developing British Wool Coffins for Water Cremation
On 2nd March 2026, Scotland became the first UK country to grant permission for a new funerary method to be introduced. Water cremation (also known as alkaline hydrolysis or aquamation) uses a pressurised container with water that is mixed with an alkaline solution.
This method of cremation requires wool shrouds or coffins that break down completely during the process. We do already offer pure wool felt shrouds that are suitable for water cremation which can be purchased here:
We do however, understand that shrouds are not for everybody and so have further developed a material that we have been using to create wool coffins with since 2021. We have taken our rigid wool felt sheets and laminated them together to create even stronger wool boards that can be used to create products designed for water cremation.
Our Third Generation, Rigid Wool Sheets
Made from certified British Wool, our third generation rigid wool sheets are designed for the creation of wool products suitable for burial and water cremation.
Naturally Strong
Our rigid wool boards are made using only 100% natural materials. The main component is our Welsh wool felt fabric which we source from a local family farm here in Mid Wales.
