The Woollen Cwtch Company re-established the use of British Wool within the funeral industry.
Founded by Eleanor Hunt in 2021 with the purpose of creating diversification opportunities for British farmers and their wool, The Woollen Cwtch Company quickly established a reputation for meticulous quality in design, workmanship and dedication to continued innovation.
Our first wool coffin range was developed using exclusively 100% pure wool which we stiffen using natural materials and specialist techniques designed specifically to create structural stability. Some of our very earliest coffins were created for babies and infants and feature decorative hand felted detailing.
Over the following years we continued to develop our methods for producing wool coffins. One area we focused upon was the use of traditional heritage craft skills. This led to the development of our woven wool and willow coffins. Our first prototypes of these were created from hand rolled felted wool ropes. All of our ropes are now hand spun on traditional spinning wheels allowing us to creating different weights and styles of weaving ropes.

In addition to producing our own felted wool ropes and fabric, we also work with textiles and materials created by other companies who share our passion and belief in the use of British Wool. In 2025 we launched a new range of traditional style wool coffins which we produce in collaboration with Halliday Funeral Supplies. Established in 1979, this family owned business has a well earned reputation for their trustworthiness and ethical conduct within the industry.
Our work to develop new and innovative wool products designed to meet the evolving needs of the funeral industry remains at the heart of what we do today.
Wool is an incredible natural material that is ideally suited to the modern funeral industry. We believe that it offers many opportunities for British farmers to diversify with their wool whilst creating beautiful and meaningful products that genuinely meet the needs of the industry and the people that they serve.
The Woollen Cwtch Company are currently the only producers of authentic British Wool coffins, shrouds and urns. All of the wool in our products is verified through an independent annual audit and carry the British Wool Shepherd's Crook Mark. This guarantees that all of the wool we use has been grown on British farms and processed entirely within the UK.

The Woollen Cwtch Company believes in making British Wool an accessible funeral option wherever possible. Our wool coffin pillows can be used with any coffin or shroud available on the market today and are suitable for burial and cremation. They are available in a range of regional wools, including our locally sourced Welsh wool.
