Realistic Wool Feathers Method 1
This tutorial shares the technique I devised for making realistic looking wool feathers that contain a wire spine. The wire spine not only adds a natural detail to the feathers but also allows them to be posed in a variety of positions. I spent a long time thinking about how to achieve a thin, wired feather that could be made in multiple colours and in the end the solution I came up with was simple! These have a slight fluffy appearance and are great for adding to larger projects. The wire can be inserted and glued into position on needle felted sculptures too
Realistic Wool Feathers Method 2
This tutorial shares the second technique I devised for making realistic wool feathers that contain a wire spine. Larger and more varied shapes can be achieved with this method, making it the perfect for adapting to other projects. Perfect for adding to 3D felting projects, wreathes or costumes. These feathers are ultra thin yet can be twisted, bent and re-positioned. A very smooth finish can be achieved using this method.
